About Unix Time (Epoch Time)

Unix time, also known as Epoch time, POSIX time, or Unix timestamp, is a system for describing a point in time. It is the number of seconds that have elapsed since 00:00:00 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), Thursday, 1 January 1970, not counting leap seconds.

Key Characteristics:

  • Simplicity: Represents time as a single integer, making it easy to store and compute differences.
  • Universality: Independent of time zones and daylight saving rules, providing a global standard (always UTC).
  • Usage: Widely used in operating systems, file formats, programming languages, and databases.
  • Millisecond Precision: While the standard is seconds, some systems use milliseconds since epoch (this tool uses seconds).

This tool helps you convert Unix timestamps to human-readable dates and vice-versa, and also displays the current Unix timestamp.
